The future of free trade zones, at Fira de Barcelona

The World Free Trade Zone Congress (AICE) will bring together more than 1,500 experts to discuss the key aspects of their digital transformation. Innovation, sustainability and digitalisation will be the main themes of the event, which will be held at the Montjuïc venue, coinciding with the SIL logistics exhibition.
The role of the Economy 4.0 in the international trade sector will be the main theme of the 2019 World Free Trade Zone Congress, which Fira de Barcelona is hosting between 26 and 28 June. Under the slogan ‘Free Zone 4.0 meets Economy 4.0’, the congress will present the new production and commercial models derived from globalisation and the digitalisation of the sector, as well as the growing impact of e-commerce on the logistical role of free zones.
According to data from the World Free Zones Organisation, the event organiser, free zones account for more than 70 million jobs worldwide. In this regard, during the event the annual result of the Izdihar Index will be presented. This analyses the impact of free zones on the prosperity of their surrounding areas.
For three days, participants will be able to attend conferences presented by international trade experts, visit the exhibitors’ area, and participate in the networking activities. Thus, at the end of June, Barcelona will become the world capital of trade and logistics thanks to the simultaneous holding of the World Free Trade Zone Congress, the International Logistics Exhibition (SIL in its Spanish initials), and E-delivery, the fair dedicated to e-commerce.
