Fira de Barcelona donates two tonnes of food to soup kitchens overrun due to the Covid-19

Fira de Barcelona and the NGO Nutrición Sin Fronteras have delivered 2,066 kg of food to different soup kitchens and social centres that are overrun due to the confinement caused by the Covid-19 epidemic. The facilities, all located in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, have received cereal, nuts, vegetables, legumes, juices, milk and butter, among other products.

This is food that GastroFira, Fira de Barcelona’s internal catering department, had in its warehouse located in the Gran Via venue and that it wanted to distribute through Nutrición Sin Fronteras, the organization through which it regularly donates the food surplus at the events held in Fira. The products have been taken to the following centres: Sala Baluard (Barcelona), Metzineres (Barcelona), Lluís Companys (Barcelona), Formació i Treball (Barcelona) and La Torrassa (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat).

With this action, the trade fair institution aims to continue contributing to the fight against the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The food donation now adds to the use of Hall 7 of the Montjuïc venue as a shelter for vulnerable people. The facility opened its doors on Wednesday with 225 beds that have already been occupied and which could increase its operational capacity to a thousand people.
