Facial recognition, key theme of the Digital Future Society Summit

On 19th and 20th November, international experts will analyse the challenges, opportunities and risks of facial recognition and other types of biometric data in the context of smart cities. They will do so within the framework of the Digital Future Society Summit, which coincides with the Smart City Expo World Congress being held at the Gran Via venue.

With the aim of achieving a more inclusive and sustainable future, the Digital Future Society Summit initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Economy and Business and Mobile World Capital Barcelona, shall debate the current role of technology and the ethical, social and economic challenges posed by digital transformation. On this occasion, the event will address the subjects of security, ethics, legality and digital trust in emerging technologies. In particular, it will focus on the opportunities and risks of facial recognition and other biometric data, such as iris or voice recognition.

The Digital Future Society Summit will include talks given by prestigious experts, such as Ed Vaizey, former British Minister for Digital and the Creative Industries, Jeff Merrit, Head of IoT and Robotics for Smart Cities at the World Economic Forum, and Rumman Chowdhury, Head of Artificial Intelligence at Accenture Applied Intelligence.
