Alimentaria FoodTech reflects the technological dynamism of the agri-food sector

Alimentaria FoodTech, the innovation, technology and ingredients fair for the agri-food industry, closed a successful edition today after bringing together the main companies in the sector and almost 13,000 professionals for three days at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue. The event highlighted the latest innovations in automation, artificial intelligence, food safety, new ingredients and sustainability for the manufacture and processing of food and beverages.

More than 330 exhibiting companies from 22 countries participated in this edition, 26% of them international, as well as 35 startups and more than 140 experts. The fair brought together a wide range of innovation, technology and ingredients for the entire agri-food production chain. The show also brought together more than 200 buyers from more than 40 countries, and 830 business meetings were held with exhibiting companies.

In terms of training sessions, the show hosted more than 140 national and international experts and 60 presentations focused on the changes that are transforming this sector, such as the incorporation of smart technologies into production processes, the development of new ingredients, more sustainable production models, the challenges of exporting, and advances aimed at strengthening food quality and safety.

Among the main innovations presented are artificial vision systems to optimize production and detect contaminants or defects, high cold pressure technologies to extend the shelf life of food and sensors aimed at reducing both product losses and water consumption and generating data for the artificial intelligence of its customers.

Ricardo Márquez, director of Alimentaria FoodTech, believes that “this edition has confirmed the technological dynamism of the food and beverage industry and its commitment to innovation to gain efficiency and competitiveness”.

Alimentaria FoodTech has had the collaboration of leading sectoral entities such as multisectorial association amec, ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries (FIAB), the Institute for Research and Agri-Food Technologies (IRTA), and the Department d’Agriccultura, Ramaderia, Pesca i Alimentació de la Generalitat de Catalunya.

The next edition will take place from 8 to 10 October 2029 at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue.
