Fira de Barcelona’s commitment against covid-19
More than ever, Fira de Barcelona is assuming its commitment to the city, the territory and people in view of the serious crisis caused by covid-19. We are therefore making our facilities and knowledge available to institutions, entities and society as a whole to help mitigate the effects of the pandemic.
We are pooling our efforts in order to contribute to overcoming this exceptional situation, one which is making us prioritise people’s health and well-being above all else.
Fira Salut temporary hospital
Fira de Barcelona is contributing to the setting up of the Fira Salut temporary hospital by the Ministry of Health of the Government of Catalonia at the Gran Via venue in order to relieve the pressure on the healthcare system if required. It has been fitted out to operate with 300 beds (a number that can be increased with 700 more). Once these facilities start operating, Fira will also provide the coverage of certain basic services.

Shelter centre at Hall 7 Montjuïc
Hall 7 (Victoria Eugenia) at the Montjuïc venue has been equipped as a sheltering centre for people in vulnerable situation during the health alert. Fira de Barcelona has provided the Barcelona City Council with an area of 6,000 m2 and a total of 450 beds (a number which can be increased if necessary). The Red Cross and the Health and Community Foundation have also taken part in the setting up of these facilities, which is managed by the UME (Military Emergency Unit), the Army, Barcelona Fire Brigade and the Local Police Force.

Food donations
Fira de Barcelona has donated over two tonnes of food, which have been distributed by Nutrición Sin Fronteras (Nutrition Without Borders) to soup kitchens and social centres in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona. Cereals, nuts, vegetables, legumes, juices, milk and butter, among other products, have been transported from the warehouse of Gastrofira, the institution’s catering department.
Preparation of 17,000 menus for hospitals and retirement homes
The team at Gastrofira, Fira de Barcelona’s catering department, has prepared over 17,000 menus in the central kitchen of the Gran Via venue for hospitals and nursing homes in Barcelona and other Spanish towns and cities.
With society and companies
In view of the covid-19 pandemic, Fira de Barcelona is re-scheduling its trade fair calendar and continuing to work remotely to ensure that, when the situation so allows, it may resume its activity and be an economic and social driving force by supporting professionals, companies, self-employed workers and entrepreneurs once again.
