Pilot test of the vaccination center at Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue

The Catalan Health Department has begun a pilot test of the vaccination center located in Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue that should start its activity next April 30th. Throughout the day, about 1,000 doses have been administered in Hall 4, which has become one of the first mass vaccination facilities that the Government of Catalonia has activated against COVID-19. The center will allow to combine this sanitary use with the tradeshow activity in the remaining halls.

The Catalan Health Department and Fira de Barcelona have worked to ensure that the new facility allows the swift administration of vaccines in a comfortable space for citizens and health professionals. The Government of Catalonia has provided all the healthcare personnel (nurses, technicians, administration personnel), the health materials (vaccines, supplies, etc.) and the necessary technology (computers, software). For its part, Fira has designed the vaccination space, flows and operations and has been in charge of setting up the center and non-health operations.

The facility located in Hall 4 of the Montjuïc venue consists of a flexible structure that allows up to 60 vaccination points to be set up on different levels of the building once it is fully operational. For now, it will start with 20 points.

The center comprises an area of10,000 square meters and has high ceilings of 5 meters high allowing adequate air renewal depending on the capacity. In addition, the complex has a level dedicated to admissions with 112 windows that will guarantee an agile management of the appointments.

The General Manager of Fira de Barcelona, Constantí Serrallonga, highlighted that this action “is part of our social commitment, putting our knowledge, assets and capabilities at the service of the project. For the institution it is a source of pride to be able to contribute to this collective challenge posed by mass vaccination and thus move towards normality as soon as possible.

The vaccination center adds to other actions in which Fira de Barcelona has participated in the fight against the pandemic in collaboration with the Government of Catalonia, the Barcelona City Council and various social organizations.
