With more than 70 companies and institutions and fifty speakers
Chile hosts its fourth Smart City Expo focused on a sustainable, people-centred urban future
Santiago de Chile will become the Latin American capital of smart cities from July 23 to 25, on the occasion of the celebration of a new Smart City Expo. The event, which this year reaches its fourth edition, will bring together more than 2,500 visitors at the Estación Mapocho Cultural Center to address the design and construction of more innovative and sustainable cities that place citizens at the center of their development.
Under the slogan “Recovering the city for people: Smart Santiago, sustainable future”, the event, organized by the Government of Santiago, through its Regional Corporation, together with the Metropolitan Regional Council and Sé Santiago, and produced by Fira de Barcelona in alliance with Interexpo, returns to the Mapocho Station in the Chilean capital to address urban innovation by connecting all the actors involved in it: from the public sector to the business fabric, through universities, technology centres or civil society as a whole.
To this end, Smart City Expo Santiago de Chile (SCES) has a congress programme built around five thematic axes: ‘Smart metropolis: data-driven city’; ‘360º Human Security’; ‘Smart mobility and sustainable habitat’; ‘Urban metabolism and climate action’, and ‘Digital ecosystems for the Santiago de las Personas’.
These vectors will be addressed by a panel of more than fifty speakers, including the world’s leading expert in smart cities Sandra Baer, CEO and president of Personal Cities; the former mayor of Quito Mauricio Rodas; the strategic consultant Leonardo Maldonado; the former mayor of Stockholm Anna Könnig, or Cardinal Fernando Chomalí, archbishop of Santiago de Chile, who will address the ethical, social and spiritual challenges linked to the development of AI.
José de la Uz, president of RECI (Spanish Network of Smart Cities) and mayor of Las Rozas, or the OECD analyst Eleanor West, among other relevant figures in the universe of urban innovation, will also participate.
Declaration of Santiago
In parallel to the conference programme, SCES will have an exhibition space in which both consolidated companies and relevant startups in the field of urban innovation will present disruptive solutions focused on the transformation of cities and sustainable mobility. More than 70 companies, technology centres and institutions such as Hikvision, NTT Group, ISS, ZKTeco, Tivit, UN Women and the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) will participate in the event.
On the other hand, Smart City Expo will also be the framework for two meetings at the highest political level: one with the 16 regional governors of Chile, and the other with the 52 mayors of the Metropolitan Region. The first summit will culminate with the signing of the Smart City Declaration of Santiago, while the second will host the official constitution of RECI Hispanoamericano, the network of smart cities for that geographical area.
Fira, global platform
Smart City Expo Santiago de Chile is part of the calendar of events that Fira de Barcelona is organising outside Spain in 2026. Among the events included in this program are the editions of Smart City Expo in Curitiba (Brazil), Santiago del Estero (Argentina), Puebla (Mexico) and Santiago de Cali (Colombia), as well as the Tomorrow.City in Shanghai and the United States, the second edition of Mexico Hospitality Expo in Guadalajara (Mexico) and a new edition of Tomorrow.Blue Economy in Niterói (Brazil).
In addition to all these events, the first editions of Argentina Alimenta, in Buenos Aires, and Aqaba Blue Ocean Future in Action, in Jordan, are also added.
