Portugal to be the Guest Country at Construmat 2027

Construmat, Spain’s leading construction trade show, will strengthen its international profile in 2027 with the participation of Portugal as the guest country. The next edition, taking place from 18 to 20 May at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue, will become the leading meeting point for companies, developers, architects, engineering firms, contractors and suppliers from both countries looking to forge commercial partnerships and gain access to new investment projects.

The invitation to Portugal comes at a particularly dynamic time for its construction sector, driven by major infrastructure projects, public investment and European funding. Among the initiatives reshaping the country are the future high speed rail link between Lisbon and Porto, the expansion of Lisbon Airport, and a range of projects linked to the joint hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup by Portugal, Spain and Morocco. These developments are expected to generate multi-billion-euro investments over the coming years.

With the support of the Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency (AICEP) and Portugal’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Construmat will bring together in Barcelona a broad representation of the entire Portuguese construction ecosystem, including both suppliers and specifiers, developers and procurement decision-makers. The Portuguese delegation will feature materials manufacturers, construction companies, property developers, architects, engineering firms, industry associations and public bodies involved in future projects.

Among the organisations visiting Construmat will be the Portuguese Business Association (AEP), the Portuguese Association of Building Materials Merchants (APCMC), the Portuguese Association of Wood and Furniture Industries (AIMMP), the Association of Construction and Public Works Industries (AICCOPN), the Portuguese Order of Architects, the Sustainable Habitat Cluster and the Portuguese Construction Technology Platform (PTPC), alongside other leading industry bodies.

Portugal’s Minister for Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, has also confirmed his attendance at the show, where he will take part in institutional and business meetings with Spanish representatives and some of the companies most closely linked to Construmat.

The 2030 World Cup on the Horizon
Business-focused activities aimed at strengthening ties between Spain and Portugal will be one of the major attractions of the 2027 edition. Exhibitors will have access to dedicated networking programmes such as Meet & Connect, as well as a tailored schedule of meetings designed to facilitate direct contact with buyers, specifiers, developers and project leaders from both countries. This will enable participating companies to identify collaboration opportunities, explore new international expansion routes and establish strategic relationships with key players in the Portuguese market.

The Construmat Congress will also focus on the opportunities arising from the 2030 FIFA World Cup. One of the programme highlights will be a round-table discussion bringing together representatives from Spain, Portugal and Morocco involved in the development of infrastructure, facilities and stadiums associated with the tournament.

In addition, the congress will gather leading Portuguese and Spanish architects to discuss the future challenges facing architecture and construction. The organisers are working to secure the participation of Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, Pritzker Prize winner and designer of the iconic Braga Stadium, as part of an intergenerational dialogue between some of the most influential figures from both countries.

Portugal’s prominent role at Construmat also reflects the strong performance of its economy. According to official figures, the country recorded annual growth of 2.5% in the second quarter of 2026 and boasts a construction market worth more than US$13.1 billion, driven by public investment, urban regeneration projects and European funding.

Construmat Director Roger Bou stated: “With Portugal joining the ranks of previous guest countries such as Morocco and Türkiye, Construmat continues to advance towards its goal of becoming a more global event while creating new internationalisation opportunities for participating companies.”

The 25th edition of Construmat is expected to welcome more than 400 exhibitors, occupying Halls 6 and 7 at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue.
