The fair will address key industry challenges including vineyard management, changing consumer habits and climate change
Barcelona Wine Week 2027 to spotlight the value and complexity of Spain’s age-worthy wines
Barcelona Wine Week (BWW), Spain’s leading trade show for quality wine, will take place from 8 to 10 February 2027 at Fira de Barcelona, bringing together leading experts and industry professionals to explore the sector’s key trends and challenges. The programme will feature prominent national and international figures, including Eric Asimov, wine critic for The New York Times.
Age-worthy wines will be one of the event’s central themes. Sommeliers, winemakers, critics and specialists will examine the distinctive value of wines crafted to evolve and gain complexity over time, highlighting longevity as a hallmark of quality and excellence.
Through a series of masterclasses and tastings, experts will explore how time transforms wine and the factors that determine its ageing potential. Discussions will focus on the influence of origin, grape varieties, viticulture, winemaking techniques and storage conditions, as well as bottle evolution and its impact on aromas, texture and the character of each vintage.
Among the international speakers, Eric Asimov, wine critic for The New York Times and one of the wine world’s most respected voices, will offer a global perspective on the role of age-worthy wines and their ability to stand out in an increasingly competitive market.
Other confirmed speakers include María José Huertas, Head Sommelier at Paco Roncero’s restaurant at Casino de Madrid; Dani Giganto, sommelier at MU.NA in Ponferrada; journalist and broadcaster José Ribagorda; Almudena Alberca, Spain’s only Master of Wine; and winemakers Peter Sisseck (Dominio de Pingus) and María Vargas (Marqués de Murrieta). All will take part in sessions aimed at wine industry professionals.
In addition, La Vanguardia wine journalist and critic Ramón Francàs will host the tasting “The 13 Magnificent Wines of Rioja”, showcasing some of the most iconic labels from Rioja DOCa and demonstrating their remarkable ageing potential.Addressing the industry’s major challenges
Alongside its focus on wine excellence, BWW 2027 will also tackle some of the wine sector’s most pressing issues, including vineyard management in a context of surplus production, shifting consumption patterns, and strategies to strengthen the perceived value of wine among consumers.
“Barcelona Wine Week aims to support the industry in tackling challenges that affect the entire value chain, from the vineyard to the marketplace. We want to foster knowledge sharing, anticipate new opportunities and help shape strategies that enhance the competitiveness and value of Spanish wine,” says Céline Pérez, Director of the show.
Experts, producers, institutional representatives and distribution professionals will discuss market transformations and the tools needed to respond effectively while maintaining competitiveness in an increasingly complex environment.
The event will also showcase Fire Wine, a European innovation project designed to promote more resilient vineyard landscapes and contribute to wildfire prevention. Originally launched in Catalonia and now expanded to other regions of Spain, France, Portugal and Italy, the initiative includes the development of a certification label recognising wineries committed to improving the resilience of their forested vineyard estates.
Horeca and consumer trends
The 2027 edition will introduce the Horeca Wine Forum, a new event dedicated to analysing and debating the role of wine in hospitality and foodservice. Topics will include profitability, pricing strategies, by-the-glass programmes, emerging consumption occasions and the relationship between wineries, distributors and hospitality businesses.
The programme will be underpinned by an industry report based on existing research and interviews with professionals, as well as a think tank bringing together ten leading sector voices to identify strategies for boosting wine sales and consumption in the on-trade.
As a prelude to Barcelona Wine Week, the fourth edition of Hotel Wine Fest will take place from 27 January to 10 February 2027. The initiative will bring Spanish wines closer to consumers through gastronomic experiences in Barcelona’s five-star hotels. Over 15 days, participating venues will offer tapas and tasting menus paired with wines from different winemaking regions across Spain. The event will also feature both a Best Food and Wine Pairing Award, judged by an expert panel, and a People’s Choice Award for Best Wine Experience.
BWW 2027 is expected to bring together more than 1,300 exhibiting companies from 16 Spanish regions across Halls 1 and 2 at Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue, representing over 90 Designations of Origin and other quality certifications.
Since its launch, the show has enjoyed strong backing from across the wine industry. Its organising committee includes key representative bodies such as the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, the Spanish Conference of Wine Regulatory Councils (CECRV) and the Catalan Wine Association (AVC). BWW is also supported by cooperative banking group Cajamar.
