Battery & ES Tech Europe claims European energy autonomy at its premiere

Battery & Energy Storage Tech Europe closed its first edition today, positioning itself as a new meeting point for the battery and energy storage sector. Organised by Fira de Barcelona, the event brought together more than 1,200 professional attendees linked to the sector as well as more than 70 international experts. All of them were able to discuss and reflect on the main technological, industrial and regulatory challenges of an industry called to play a key role in Europe’s competitiveness and energy transition.

The event brought together battery manufacturers, energy companies, technology centres, public administrations, sector associations and investors from all over the continent in an environment aimed at the exchange of knowledge, networking and the generation of new business opportunities.

The congress programme included dozens of lectures, round tables and specialist presentations focusing on areas such as energy storage systems (BESS), next-generation technologies, new chemistries, recycling and second life of batteries, project financing and the development of a stronger and more competitive European value chain.

Among the main messages that emerged during the meeting was the need to accelerate the deployment of energy storage to strengthen European strategic autonomy, facilitate the integration of renewable energies and move towards a more resilient and sustainable energy model. Emerging opportunities linked to industrial electrification, data centres, advanced mobility and the digitalisation of the energy sector were also addressed.

In parallel to the congress agenda, the show hosted an exhibition area with some 50 companies and institutions covering the entire value chain of the sector, from manufacturers to system suppliers, technology centres and public institutions.

According to Fira de Barcelona’s director of business development, Santiago Blanco, “the good reception that this proposal has had proves the strategic importance of this sector”. In this sense, Blanco believes that “the show also allows the city and the country to position themselves in an area that will experience enormous development over the coming years”.

The next edition of Battery & ES Tech Europe will also take place in Barcelona on 28 and 29 September 2027.
