Piscina & Wellness Barcelona connects pool industry innovation with wellness, health and the community

This year Piscina & Wellness Barcelona is launching a unique innovation programme with which it aims to revitalise and reveal new market solutions from the perspective and experience of the demand sectors and users of aquatic facilities. Thus, the trade fair will create spaces for communication, recognition and training open to professionals and companies where innovation will be addressed as a response to the uses of swimming pools linked to wellness, health and the community.

As the Director of the event, Ángel Celorrio, explains, “in this edition, Piscina & Wellness Barcelona changes the perspective of innovation to share the understanding of the future of swimming pools. It is no longer only important to know how the pool industry innovates, but why it does so.” Celorrio says that, in order to anticipate change, “the sector must understand and, above all, know how to communicate what motivates this innovation, whose main aim must always be to satisfy people’s needs and solve socially relevant challenges.”

In this regard, the main purposes which contribute to an innovative, sustainable, well-equipped and maintained swimming pool are that of wellness, health and community, as identified by Piscina & Wellness Barcelona. Wellness, understanding the swimming pool as an irreplaceable area for leisure, entertainment and fun, especially for families, and as a space for relaxation and sensory pleasure. Health, for the benefits of swimming as a sport, physical activity for all ages, and therapeutic functionality for people with special needs, rehabilitation and muscle strengthening. And community, as a place where groups can meet and form diverse relationships.

Innovation Programme

Thus, based on these three objectives, for this edition the event has articulated its innovation programme, which will include a new line of communication of relevant success stories from the international swimming pool industry. In this way, the best projects and implementations of aquatic solutions from different countries are being identified and, together with their protagonists (suppliers, builders and representatives of user sectors and end customers) they are showcased and inspire potential new customers. This content will be shared on social media and the fair’s other communication channels in the months leading up to the event.

At the same time, the traditional Piscina & Wellness Awards have joined this innovation programme and reformulated their categories. Thus, in addition to rewarding the most innovative product among those exhibited at the fair, both newly built and restored swimming pool and wellness centre projects that stand out for the real implementation of solutions that contribute to wellness, health and the community will be recognised, providing an exemplary response to these demand needs. The International Contest for Architecture Students organised by the fair is also part of this philosophy of understanding the relationship between human beings, aquatic facilities and the uses and enjoyment of water.

Finally, within the framework of the fair, various technical workshops and conferences will be held in which innovation will be shown and analysed from this new approach: the resolution of the challenges posed by the end customer and by demand sectors (hotels, campsites, resorts, wellness centres, spas, thalassotherapy centres, sports facilities, gyms, medical centres, local administrations, neighbourhood communities, etc.).

Organised by Fira de Barcelona in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Swimming Pool Professionals (ASOFAP in its Spanish initials), Piscina & Wellness Barcelona is the most international event on the sector’s European trade fair calendar. It will hold its next edition in hybrid format (face-to-face and virtual) from 29 November to 2 December 2021 at the Gran Via venue. The fair brings together the entire value chain of swimming pool products for residential and public use, as well as facilities, equipment and accessories related to wellness, spas, fitness and interior design.
