Spanish wine will show its great diversity at Barcelona Wine Week 2027

Barcelona Wine Week (BWW) is making progress in the preparations for its next edition, which will be held from 8 to 10 February 2027 in Halls 1 and 2 of Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue. With more than 90% of its exhibition space already reserved, the show will once again be the main meeting point in Spain to exhibit the best national production to national and international operators. Wines for aging will be the focus of the event’s programme of tastings, conferences and training sessions.

In a context marked by sectoral challenges such as the recovery of value, increasing domestic consumption and strengthening international positioning, BWW is strengthening its commitment to a model based on territories, designations of origin (DO) and other quality seals. This organisation allows the plurality of the Spanish wine map to be clearly shown and provides professional visitors with a structured tour of producing areas, varieties and styles.

The next edition of the show plans to bring together more than 90 DOs and other quality seals in halls 1 and 2 of the Montjuïc venue of Fira de Barcelona , with the participation of 16 autonomous communities. Among the regions with the highest number of wineries are Catalonia, Castilla y León, La Rioja, Euskadi, Galicia and Castilla-La Mancha. In addition, iconic denominations such as DOC Priorat and DOCa Rioja will be present, along with PDO Valencia, PDO Somontano, PDO Jumilla and PDO Alicante, as well as DO Utiel-Requena, DO Toro, DO Terra Alta, DO Rueda, DO Ribera del Duero, DO Rías Baixas, DO Penedès, DO Montsant, DO Montilla-Moriles, DO La Mancha, DO Costers del Segre, DO Condado de Huelva and DO Cava.

The event will also feature the participation of leading wineries, groups and operators that renew their confidence in the show such as Freixenet Group, Marqués del Atrio, Raventós Codorníu, Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres, La Rioja Alta, Perelada & Chivite, Juvé & Camps, Jorge Ordóñez Group, Bodegas Familiares Rioja, Asociación Grandes Pagos de España, Bodegas José Pariente, Bodegas Zárate,  Bodegas Luis Pérez or Bodegas Cepa 21, among other leading representative firms in the sector. The participation of 1,300 exhibiting companies is expected.

“Barcelona Wine Week responds to a clear need of the sector: to project quality Spanish wine from its territories, its wineries and its capacity for differentiation. In 2027 we will continue to strengthen this model so that the show continues to be, more than ever, an effective platform for business, positioning and internationalisation”, says Raquel Pérez, new president of BWW and also president of DOCa Rioja.

International momentum

In a context of transformation in the wine sector, Barcelona Wine Week (BWW) reinforces its role as a strategic platform to promote the international projection and competitiveness of quality Spanish wines. According to ICEX data, Spanish wine exports reached a value of 2,982.3 million euros in 2025, 2.8% less than the previous year.

The next edition, which is expected to hold more than 13,500 business meetings, will reinforce its strategy to attract buyers from priority countries for the sector, such as the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands and Canada. It will also promote the presence of destinations with high growth potential, including South Korea, Japan, Ireland, Brazil, India and Australia, with the aim of diversifying markets and generating new commercial opportunities for exhibiting wineries.

Wines for aging

Barcelona Wine Week 2027 will dedicate the central axis of its programme of activities to ageing wines, highlighting the role of time as one of the factors that enhance their quality. Through a programme of tastings and presentations, the event will bring together references with a minimum of ten years of evolution from different regions and production methods. Although wines for aging represent a small fraction of the total volume produced in Spain, they constitute one of the segments with the highest added value and prestige in the sector.

The show will also strengthen its link with the national Horeca channel through initiatives to increase the participation of restaurant, hotel and specialised distribution professionals. With this, it seeks to expand business opportunities and strengthen its role as a point of connection between production and market. According to the study ‘Wine Observatory in Spain: consumption habits, perception, trends and future of the sector’, carried out by Alimarket for BWW, 94% of wine consumers in Spain say they consume it in bars and restaurants, which places the hospitality industry as the main means of consumption and its great prescriber.

BWW has had broad sectoral support since its creation. Raquel Pérez, president of the DOCa Rioja, has recently been appointed president of its Organising Committee, which is also made up of the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), ICEX Spain Export and Investment, the Spanish Conference of Wine Regulatory Councils (CECRV), the Catalan Wine Association (AVC), the Spanish Wine Interprofessional Association (OIVE) and the leading cooperative bank Cajamar.
