More than 50 speakers will reflect on the great challenges of the sector
Energy storage takes centre stage at Battery & ES Tech Europe 2026
Organised by Fira de Barcelona, Battery & Energy Storage Tech Europe will feature fifty speakers from the field of energy storage, including large supply and development companies, battery manufacturers, technology centres, associations and institutions. In this forum, leading professionals and experts will share experiences and discuss their implementation, the regulatory framework, the impact of new technologies and their key role in the future of the European economy.
Specifically, the Battery & ES Tech Europe congress programme will be structured around four axes: industrial and emerging applications; technological perspective – BESS (Battery Energy Storage System); recycling and second life, and policy and regulation. All of them are key vectors for the present and future of a sector that, with a weight of close to 58,000 million euros, is called to play a leading role in Europe’s industrial strategy for decades to come.
On the issues that directly affect the industry, big names in the industry will debate, such as: Christian Barba, International Business Development and Storage Senior Director of EDP Renewables; Naim El Chami, Battery Technical Expert of Neoen; Pablo Fernández-Santos, Managing Director of Basquevolt; Graeme Purdy, CEO of Ilika; Veeral Hardev, vice president, Business Development of Blue Current, or Alex Cipolla, project director of the Volta Foundation, among others.
The regulatory challenges, financing and issues affecting the sector’s strategy will be addressed by key players from the European institutional and associative sphere, such as José Moisés Martín, Director General of the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), and Joan González Fabra, Head of R+D Policies at the Battery European Partnership Association (BEPA). together with representatives of sectoral organisations such as Jean Louis Cols, vice-president of Flow Batteries Europe; Simon Steffgen, industry referent of BVES; Giorgio Travaini, Executive Director of Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking; Sonja Risteka, head of the Battery Storage Europe Platform at SolarPower Europe, and Francisco Carranza, member of the Supervisory Board of the Upcell Alliance.
Topics such as the management of innovation in this field, the introduction of AI or the promotion of new energy storage solutions will be discussed from the scientific and technological field with the participation of, among others: Laura Simonelli, Beamline Group Leader at the ALBA synchrotron; Leire Zubizarreta, Head of Battery Materials at ITE; Óscar Miguel, Deputy Director at CIDETEC; and Pol Torres, head of the AI line applied to energy at Eurecat. Dr. Josef Daniel-Ivad (International Zinc Association), Dr. Aline Soares (Project Blue), Dr. Radostin Pavlov (Eurecat), and Prof. Ehrenberg (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) have also confirmed their participation.
An unmissable event for a key sector
All in all, Battery & ES Tech Europe will attract nearly a hundred companies linked to the field of energy storage, either in its congress agenda, its different networking spaces or an exhibition area that will have some 50 companies. An offer that, as a whole, positions this show as a benchmark forum to connect industry, research and public administrations, as well as to learn about the latest technological advances, new business models, European regulation and the innovation opportunities that will mark the future of this sector.
