Liber 2026 will be the epicentre of the publishing business at Fira de Barcelona this September

This year, Fira de Barcelona and the Federation of Spanish Publishers’ Guilds (FGEE) are organising the 44th edition of Liber, which will once again position the Catalan capital as a strategic hub for strengthening the international projection of Spanish books. The fair, taking place from 29 September to 1 October at the Gran Via venue, will open new commercial opportunities in emerging markets and place special emphasis on fostering the growth of editorial rights sales and sector-wide debate.

The 2026 edition expects to bring together nearly 250 exhibitors from more than 15 countries and around 9,000 professional visitors (almost 40% from abroad). They will find in Liber a business, training and networking platform with the capacity to showcase the Spanish publishing ecosystem beyond its borders.

“Internationalisation is a key driver for the growth of the book sector. With Liber, we are firmly committed to opening new markets, attracting strategic buyers and strengthening the presence of Spanish books abroad. We also aim to boost rights trading as an essential path to expansion and promote knowledge-sharing that offers vision and solutions to the global challenges facing publishing,” says Daniel Fernández, president of the FGEE and the Liber fair.

In collaboration with various institutions and organisations, Liber 2026 will reinforce its Buyers Programme, as well as the Priority Interest Prescribers Programme and the Publishers and Literary Agents Programme. These initiatives help attract international professionals with direct responsibility for recommending, selecting and acquiring books or rights, facilitating meetings and business agreements.

Rights Hall and Agora

One of the key spaces to be consolidated in this edition will be the Rights Hall, launched last year and dedicated to the buying, selling and management of editorial and literary rights. This area will foster bilateral meetings between agents and publishers, particularly aimed at the acquisition of rights for translations, international editions and audiovisual projects.

Complementing this space will be the Agora, an area dedicated to professional presentations, trends and new business models for the book industry. It will serve as a dynamic content hub for companies and organisations in the sector.

Liber 2026 will also renew its commitment to Micro Liber, a flexible participation format aimed at small publishing houses with fewer than ten published titles or less than three years of activity, as well as entrepreneurs and start‑ups. This space provides direct access to international markets and allows participants to showcase their projects to buyers and prescribers from around the world. The fair will also include an Industry Services area featuring professional solutions for editing, printing, production and technology.

Professional programme

The Professional Conferences will be another of the fair’s core pillars, with nearly 70 talks, round tables and presentations. Sessions will be organised into thematic blocks, each coordinated by an expert, under the categories Liber Training, Liber Innovation, Liber Education, Liber Audiobook, Liber Sector and Liber International. These sessions will allow for in-depth discussion of the main challenges, trends and opportunities currently shaping the publishing sector.

The fair’s agenda will be rounded off with the Liber Gala at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), where the awards granted by the FGEE on the occasion of the fair will be presented.

Liber 2026 is organised by Fira Barcelona and promoted by the Federation of Spanish Publishers’ Guilds (FGEE). The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, Barcelona City Council, the Government of Catalonia and CEDRO, and also benefits from the collaboration of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), the Catalan‑language Publishers’ Association and the Catalan Publishers’ Guild.
