Automobile Barcelona drives a more electric future of the automotive industry

Automobile Barcelona, the 106-year-old Fira de Barcelona International Motor Show, will hold its 43rd edition from 9 to 18 May at the Montjuïc venue. The event, which has the support of the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC), will showcase the latest models of traditional and emerging car brands, will promote electromobility and boost sales.

Under the theme “Passion for motoring, passion for Barcelona”, Automobile Barcelona 2025 will show the models of 29 automotive brands, specifically Alpine, Baltasar, BYD, Cupra, DR, Ebro, E-Miles, EVO, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, ICHX, Jaecoo, Kate, KGM, Leapmotor, Lynk&Co, MG, Mobilize, Nissan, Omoda, Renault, Seat, Sportequipe, Suzuki, Tesla, Tiger, Volvo and Xpeng, which will exhibit vehicles with different engines and a clear commitment to electrification.

The President of Automobile Barcelona, Enrique Lacalle, pointed out that “we are the great event of the year in the automotive industry. We gather traditional firms, but also emerging brands that will be the stars of a market that is more electrified than ever. For this reason, we will show over 100 electric and hybrid models so that the public can discover, test and make the leap to electromobility.” And he adds, “Automobile Barcelona is a great driver of sales in at a key moment for the industry, but also a boost to the passion for motoring and an essential event for a city that lives this passion like no one else does”.

For his part, the General Director of ANFAC, José López-Tafall, said that “once again, Automobile Barcelona becomes a great showcase to bring the electric vehicle closer to the citizen. An opportunity of great value for all brands attending as it allows car lovers and interested individuals learn first-hand about every new development. The industry is already addressing the change towards more sustainable, connected and safe mobility, but we are only one part of this transition, the other and fundamental is the citizen. Events such as Automobile take sustainable mobility beyond an abstract promise into a tangible reality.”

Showcase of new launches
In its 43rd edition, Automobile Barcelona will show a dozen premieres, including a world and a European one, the Ebro S400 and MG S5, respectively. The list of vehicles that can be seen for the first time in Spain is completed by the Ford Puma Gen-E, the KGM Torres EVX and KGM Torres Actyon, the BYD Denza Z9 GT, the Hyundai Ioniq 9, the Renault 4, the Mobilize Duo and the Mobilize Bento, the Omoda 9 SHS and the Leapmotor C10 REEV.

The International Motor Show will spread over halls 1 and 8 of the Montjuïc venue, Plaça del Univers, Avinguda Maria Cristina and the surroundings of Avinguda Rius i Taulet, where the traditional boxes in which visitors will be able to get behind the wheel of the vehicles will be located, including electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Visitors will discover their performance on the track of the emblematic Montjuïc circuit in a real driving environment.

Movies and racing cars
The programme of activities of Automobile Barcelona 2025 has as its main stars the world of cinema, sports competitions and new mobility. “Movie Machines” shows the extent to which the automobile has been a central element of popular culture and a protagonist on the big screen since its birth. This immersive show revisits some of the most iconic moments of cinema with a car as a key element and will also feature on site some of the vehicles that have become authentic myths of the cinematic universe.

The impact of four-wheeled vehicles on the world of sport can be seen in “Motorsport”, a space where visitors will travel to the world of competitions. The exhibition shows cars from disciplines such as Formula E, rallying, raids, or touring car and GT racing, in an environment that will recreate the teams’ pits.

The programme of activities for the public will be completed by the “Energy Zone”, an area where visitors will be able discover the entire electromobility ecosystem from energy suppliers and charging solutions to subscription modalities and installation possibilities.

Professional Program
As a key event in the automotive industry, Automobile Barcelona 2025 will also feature a programme of activities for professionals. Among these is the Anfac-Fecavem Congress which, under the slogan “Accelerating towards sustainable mobility”, will be held on May 9 and will address some of the main challenges of the sector such as new urban mobility and sustainability, the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Spain, and the connected, autonomous and safe vehicle.

In the same vein, the STA (Society of Automotive Technicians) will organise three thematic conferences from 14 to 16 May that will deal with topics such as industrial vehicles, autonomous and connected vehicles, and industrial safety in infrastructures in the automotive sector. In addition, on Tuesday, May 13, the Spanish Association of Fleet Managers will hold the XVIII Congreso AEGFA de Gestores de Flotas y Movilidad 2025, the annual meeting of its members, within the framework of the Show.

El Clásico in Automobile Barcelona
The LALIGA match between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will also be among the stars of Automobile Barcelona. The Show and the Blaugrana Club have reached an agreement so that all ticket holders for the game corresponding to matchday 35 of the Spanish league competition can access the Show for free on the gameday, May 11.

In addition, the traditional lunch between the boards of both clubs will be held at the same Montjuïc Venue. It should be remembered that “El Clásico” will kick off at 4:15 p.m. at the Lluís Companys Stadium in Montjuïc, located only 500m away from the venue. The delegations of both teams are expected to be led by the president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, and the president of Real Madrid CF, Florentino Pérez.

This offer is also valid for all those who have a ticket to attend the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix that will be held from May 30 to June 1 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya racetrack, which is now managed by Fira de Barcelona.

Biennial, Automobile Barcelona is the only event held in Spain that has the international recognition of the OICA (Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles).
