World Conference On Lung Cancer will gather more than 7,000 attendees
Fira de Barcelona hosts the world’s largest congress on lung cancer research
The Gran Via exhibition centre will host the 2025 World Conference On Lung Cancer (WCLC 2025) from 6 to 9 September. Organized by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), this congress will bring together nearly 7,000 researchers, doctors and specialists from more than 100 countries around the world. This makes this event a unique international platform to learn about the latest scientific and clinical advances linked to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this disease. The return of WCLC to Catalonia’s Capital also confirms Fira de Barcelona’s leadership in attracting events of international importance in strategic sectors such as medicine.
For four days, the 2025 World Conference On Lung Cancer will bring together a large representation of members of the healthcare community, the research field and the medical and pharmaceutical industry at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona to learn about and discuss the latest advances in the treatment of one of the most common cancers with the highest mortality rate worldwide.
Specifically, this year’s congress will include two symposia that will highlight, among other issues, the advances made in targeted therapies and the approach to multidisciplinary approaches; in fact, these topics and the development experienced in thoracic surgery are configured as some of the major topics to be addressed during the four days of the event.
More than 1,800 abstracts
In addition, the WCLC will feature the participation of more than 350 top-level international speakers and the presentation of more than 1,800 abstracts, or brief scientific summaries of the most recent and relevant research. This informative part will also be complemented by an exhibition area in which companies and organizations will have their own space. In addition, this year’s WCLC will once again include educational sessions, industry-specific symposia, and networking activities.
Finally, the WCLC 2025, as in previous editions, will also once again include awards whose most outstanding categories are: early childhood researchers who have excelled in the field of the fight against smoking, the most relevant abstracts for the scientific and research community, or the best mentoring of young talents in thoracic surgery, among others.
Fira, a leading player in the health sector
WCLC’s return to the Catalan capital, where it held its 2019 edition, reaffirms Fira de Barcelona’s leadership in attracting top-tier international events linked to strategic sectors such as health and technology. This year, Fira’s venues – especially the CCIB, but also Gran Via and Montjuïc – will close the calendar having hosted more than 15 congresses focused on medical topics. Among the events held in the first half of the year, standout examples include ESMO (focused on gastrointestinal cancer), International Ivirma (on reproductive medicine), and EULAR (dedicated to rheumatology). Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Barcelona will welcome CIRSE (a global benchmark in radiology), ECTRIMS (focused on multiple sclerosis), and EANM (on nuclear medicine), among others.
