The Fira show organises a series of activities as a prelude to the 2027 edition
Construmat joins Barcelona on its role as World Capital of Architecture 2026
Construmat, Fira de Barcelona’s construction show, will join Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture carrying out several initiatives as a prelude to the 25th edition of the event scheduled for May 2027. The activities, designed to highlight innovation, sustainability and the professionalisation of the industry, will include practical demonstrations and guided tours aimed at bringing the construction industry closer to society.
In this way, Construmat will play a prominent role in the programme of events within Barcelona’s World Capital of Architecture recognition strengthening the city as a global hub for design, innovation and sustainability. The event by Fira de Barcelona will seize the opportunity to bring the construction industry closer to the public and showcase its contribution to responsible urban development.
For the President of Construmat, Xavier Vilajoana, also President of APCEspaña, “the leading event for construction in Spain wants to be close to such an important moment for the city and the whole country. Barcelona’s status as capital of architecture this year is an opportunity to accelerate the transformation of the construction sector towards sustainability, industrialisation and innovation, projecting the talent of the city and the country to the world. From Construmat we will contribute to maximising this special moment for the sector, the industry and all the professionals who are part of it.”
The event will launch different activities throughout the year including a space dedicated to training and awareness in works at height, built in the Plaça de la Catedral de Barcelona, and organized in collaboration with the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción. The installation will feature a counterbalanced tubular structure in which rescue exhibitions will be held, a mobile lifting platform for personnel, and the Foundation’s mobile classroom promoting prevention through personal protective equipment stressing the importance of safety and the professionalization of these tasks, among the industry’s most critical areas.
Likewise, guided tours to the best works made of wood and eco-sustainable materials in Barcelona and its metropolitan will be jointly organized with World Wood Future aimed at professionals and the general public. These routes will highlight projects that combine design, energy efficiency and respect for the environment, such as the Can Portabella neighbourhood centre, the Gabriel García Márquez library, the old Ca l’Alier factory, the ShowPass house, the Wittywood office building, the Turó de la Peira sports centre and the Royal Polo Club grandstand.
Through these actions, Construmat bolsters its commitment to sustainability, innovation and more accessible housing, themes around which its upcoming edition will pivot, from 18 to 20 May 2027 at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue.
Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture is a distinction awarded by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA) to the city hosting the UIA World Congress of Architects.
