Fira de Barcelona and Endesa install 18 electric vehicle charging points

Throughout this year, Fira de Barcelona will incorporate in its Gran Via and Montjuïc venues 18 semi-fast charging points for electric vehicles which will be available not only for visitors, but also companies in the area and pass holders. Endesa X will install charging stations that will be suitable for any vehicle and will be located in car park A of the Gran Via venue (14 charging stations) and in Calle Lleida in Montjuïc (4 charging stations), open to the public all year round regardless of the fair schedule. The project is part of trade fair institution’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and environmental sustainability.

The 18 charging points will have 7.4 kW semi-fast alternating current technology and are designed to fully charge the vehicle after a period of between four to six hours, depending on the how much pre-charge remains on the vehicle and its characteristics. Coincidently, the average time the vehicles stay in this car park is between five and six hours.

For the General Manager of Fira de Barcelona, Constantí Serrallonga, the deployment of this electric vehicle charging infrastructure is “a new important step in Fira’s constant commitment to sustainability and the protection of the environment, the responsible and efficient use of resources and the fight against climate change. Mobility is a determining factor in the economic development of a country and electric vehicles will be a key instrument in the transition to new transport models, and at Fira we want to contribute to achieving this change.”

The agreement between Fira and Endesa also includes the purchase of another 12 charging stations to be used by the trade fair institution’s supplier companies. These additional points will be used both for transport vehicles and for forklift trucks and will be located in parking spaces set up in Halls 3 and 8 of the Gran Via venue. Specifically, they will consist of eight JuicePole model chargers (22 kW in alternating current), installed in Hall 3, which allow two vehicles to be charged simultaneously, and four more of the Box type (7.4 kW in alternating current) in Hall 8.

Commitment to the environment
The display of these electric vehicle charging points shows the firm commitment of both parties to foster electric mobility as a tool to promote the fight against climate change and thus contribute to the success of the country’s sustainability and economic development goals. Therefore, in addition to providing the vehicle charging infrastructure to users, the energy that will power the vehicles will be generated from 100% renewable and emission-free sources.

In this regard, it should be noted that both entities signed a commitment at the beginning of the year to ensure that all the electricity supplied to Fira de Barcelona by Endesa at the Montjuïc and Gran Via venues is certified as “green”, i.e. from renewable sources.
