Denim Première Vision is back in Montjuïc to present the latest jeanswear trends for the 2017/18 season

Denim Première Vision, the leading trade show for the denim sector, is back on 18-19 May in Hall 8 of Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc Exhibition Centre to celebrate its 18th edition and the fifth time it is being hosted by Barcelona. The show brings together the offerings of almost 100 exhibitors from the world’s elite producers of textiles for creating denim garments. This year the companies are presenting their ideas for the Autumn/Winter 2017/18 season.
The best platform for the denim market aimed at the premium sector is back in in Barcelona to showcase the ideas of some 95 exhibitors from 23 countries, mainly Turkey, Italy and Morocco. Almost half the exhibitors (48%) are weaving companies, followed by accessory manufacturers, apparel makers and finishing specialists (20%) and the rest made up by yarn manufacturers, spinners and experts in developing technologies.
After a rigorous selection process, Denim Première Vision has chosen seven new exhibitors: five weaving companies from Italy, Brazil, Morocco and Pakistan and two accessory manufacturers from Portugal and Turkey. Several Spanish companies will also be taking part again this year: Etiquetas del Mediterráneo, from Elche, and Etiquetas Granero, from Valencia; Catalan firms Iberlaser and Macsa, specialising in laser technology, traceability and coding solutions; Valencian firm Jeanologia, also an expert in the laser treatment of denim; and finally the textile factory Textil Santanderina and the Barcelona-based Unitin-Industrias Morera, which specialises in making indigo cotton.
All the new trends in the ‘Denim Ville’ space
The show also includes an area for presenting the latest trends which this year is a recreation of a town called ‘Denim Ville’, where all the different garments created with the fabrics and accessories for the Autumn/Winter 2017/18 season will be on display, provided by the exhibitors. The show will also have a space where a team of denim enthusiasts will be giving used or worn-out jeans a second life using vintage sewing machines, and a ‘Denim Barber Shop’ where visitors can take a break. Another new feature this year is the chance to customise the classic denim bag which the organisers hand out to visitors at the show. All you need to do is follow a route that will take you to three stands where you can decorate your gift with metal studs, embroidered appliqués or even laser-printed artwork.
The show is also hosting a seminar entitled ‘Denim Trend Tasting’ which at 12:30 on Wednesday 18 May and 11:30 on Thursday 19 May brings together various experts to reveal the latest global trends in jeanswear. Other key activities include ‘Smart Creation Première Vision’, a masterclass for learning about the innovations, challenges and new goals in the denim world in terms of responsible creation and production, and ‘Beautifying the Performance’, a seminar at 15:00 on Wednesday 18 May organised by exhibitor Calik Denim, which showcases the results of their stretch creations made from Lycra.
More exhibitions and novelties than ever
This edition includes a range of activities to complement the commercial section of the show such as the space dedicated to bib overalls, the Texan working man’s uniform which will be the star of an exhibition of unique pieces in the Denim Première Vision Coffee Shop. Meanwhile, the Japanese magazine Clutch is presenting an exhibition in homage to Japanese denim through a series of photographs and a selection of worn jeans which bear witness to the longevity of ‘made in Japan’ denim.
Some of the brand new products on show include anti-stain jeans produced by start-up Odo Denim (Stand A6), which manufactures stain-proof and odour-proof jeans thanks to nanotechnology which integrates silver fibres to create a denim fabric that is not only high-tech but also sustainable as it significantly reduces the number of washes necessary. Apart from being stain-proof, jeans can also be tailor-made thanks to Selfnation (Stand A8) and its exclusive software which scans the customer’s measurements and produces truly bespoke jeans.
Denim Première Vision, for trade professionals only, expects to welcome some 4,000 visitors from the sector, including business owners and executives from high-end jeanswear fashion brands, manufacturers and designers. The event takes place in Hall 8 of Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc Exhibition Centre and opens between 09:30 and 18:30. Press accreditations can be arranged directly at the press desk located in the entrance to the show or on the website: www.denimpremierevision.com.
