Announcing the creation of one of the biggest international platforms for the food and hospitality equipment industries
Alimentaria and Hostelco will be held together in April 2018
Two of Fira de Barcelona's major trade shows, Alimentaria and Hostelco, will be held together for the first time on 16-19 April 2018, taking over the whole of the Gran Via Exhibition Centre. The event will become one of the biggest international platforms for the food, gastronomy and hospitality equipment industry, providing both the retail and HoReCa sectors with the most comprehensive and cross-cutting offering. This initiative represents Fira's response to requests from the sector, whose future success entails joining forces and strengthening synergies.
Hostelco, the International Restaurant, Hotel and Community Equipment Exhibition, which is usually held in October, is bringing its dates forward in 2018 to coincide with Alimentaria, the International Food and Drinks Exhibition, which takes place on 16-19 April. Holding the two exhibitions together will generate added value and allow participants to engender new opportunities for business and international expansion.
According to Salvador Tasqué, the director of the New Business Department of Fira de Barcelona, ‘one of the features of Fira's own shows is their constant evolution, with the aim of adapting to their respective markets and supporting innovative, high-growth sectors with added value. In this respect we want to strengthen the existing complementarity between these two major shows and offer their trade professionals a significant business platform.'
J. Antonio Valls, the general manager of Alimentaria Exhibitions, emphasises the fact that holding Alimentaria and Hostelco at the same time ‘will help to further promote the food, gastronomy and tourism sectors, highlighting their strategic importance to the Spanish economy, given that as a whole they account for over 25% of our GDP.'
Meanwhile, the director of Hostelco, Arantxa Segurado, contends that "by being held alongside Alimentaria, Hostelco will provide a much bigger showcase for its exhibitors and there will be a much broader offering for visitors to both the shows.'
The project enjoys the support of the most representative trade associations and institutions in their respective spheres, including the Spanish Federation of Hospitality and Catering Equipment Manufacturers (FELAC), which is a joint organiser of Hostelco; the Spanish Hotel and Catering Federation (FEHR), the Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation (FIAB), and the Producers and Retailers Spanish Association, (AECOC), amongst others, as well as the wholehearted backing of the Organising Committees of Alimentaria and Hostelco.
Alimentaria and Hostelco, leaders in their sectors
Alimentaria, the benchmark international event for the food and drink industry, hosted over 4,000 exhibitors in 2016 from 70 countries, as well as more than 140,000 visitors, 35% from abroad. Some 11,200 business meetings were held at the show between top-level foreign buyers and exhibitors.
Hostelco is the leading trade show in Spain and a European benchmark for equipment and services for the restaurant, hotel and mass catering industry. It was held for the eighteenth time in October 2016, underlining its leading position as a national and international business hub for products, knowledge and networking at the service of its sector.
The two events are characterised by their constant drive for innovation, internationalisation and the pursuit of business opportunities.
