The new Barcelona Cocktail Art space will showcase the spirits sector at the show

Innovative cocktails will be shaking up Alimentaria

One of the big new features at Alimentaria 2018, which takes place on 16-19 April next year in Fira de Barcelona's Gran Via venue, will be the addition of Barcelona Cocktail Art. Designed as a highly dynamic section for exhibiting and demonstrating the leading firms in the sector, this event will promote professional contacts and business deals, not forgetting bartending performances and tasting sessions. The space will showcase the most innovative products and ideas in the cocktail world,  with activities featuring the most influential bars and bartenders from Europe and Latin America.

This brand-new space, occupying some 700 square metres of the Intervin event – divided between a stand area and a stage with a cocktail bar – will put an emphasis on training, with presentations, workshops, master classes and tasting sessions given by national and international experts. It will also host the final of the national Shake Attack competition, attended by a guest country. Over the course of the week of the show there will also be four themed parties in some of Barcelona's most iconic cocktail bars where a cocktail especially created for the event will be served.

While the 2014 edition of Alimentaria was the first to start dedicating a special area to cocktails, the creation of Barcelona Cocktail Art represents ‘an even bigger commitment to innovation in the sector, with the aim of spearheading the latest trends in the world of spirits and liqueurs,' says J. Antonio Valls, the general manager of Alimentaria Exhibitions and senior executive of the show. This is an industry that in Spain generates a turnover estimated at more than 7,400 million euros, according to the Spanish Federation of Spirits (FEBE).

George Restrepo, the joint organiser of Barcelona Cocktail Art and founder of Coctelería Creativa, the biggest platform in Spain for cocktails and spirits, contends that ‘Barcelona has some outstanding experts in this art, bars that are recognised internationally as among the best in the world, and will now have the show it needs in the framework of a leading event such as Alimentaria, which is renowned for its innovation and generation of business opportunities.'

The best ambassadors of the ‘made in Barcelona' cocktail

Barcelona Cocktail Art enjoys the support of the city that is hosting the event, whose iconic cocktail bars are getting actively involved in the international promotion of this pioneering initiative.

José María Gotarda, the president of the Barman Club of Catalonia, owner of the Ideal Cocktail Bar and professor at the ESHOB hotel and catering college; Jerónimo Baquero, owner of Boadas; Angel David Asensio, proprietor of Dux and a partner in Conbe; Luca Izzo, owner of Old Fashioned and Hemingway; Juan Falcón, a partner in Creps al Born and Savage; Danny Martín, a partner in Bobbys Free; Giacomo Giannotti, a partner in Paradiso, and Lorenzo Meini, a partner in Collage, are just some of the renowned bartenders giving their support to Barcelona Cocktail Art, setting themselves up to be its top ambassadors.

Intervin, the ideal scenario for the event

Barcelona Cocktail Art will occupy a privileged space at Intervin, the trade show for wines, ciders and spirits at Alimentaria which is organised by Alimentaria Exhibitions, a Fira de Barcelona company. It is the most important sector event for the Spanish wine and spirits industry and the main platform for accessing international markets. Now consolidated as a cornerstone of Alimentaria, Intervin brings together more than 700 companies in a net exhibition area of 15,000 square metres.

The fact that Intervin takes place at the same time as Hostelco, the hotel and restaurant show, offers exhibitors at Intervin even more opportunities to penetrate the hotel and restaurant channel.
